Frequently Asked Questions.

Do you have questions about NeuronCard? Here you will find the answers.

Whether you are wondering how the NeuronCard AI can help you create flashcards or how the AI Learning Assistant Neuron helps you understand complex topics, you will find the right answers here. Perhaps you just want to know if NeuronCard is free or why the FSRS algorithm is better than SM-2. We also explain how you can transfer existing decks from Anki or StudySmarter and how to share your cards with friends. And if you are entirely new to the topic: Find out why studying with Active Recall and Spaced Repetition is the key to your exam success.

Learning Methods & Ratings

How do flashcard ratings work?

To allow our AI to map your memory perfectly, you have 4 rating options. Choose 'Again' (Incorrect) consistently if you didn't know the answer or had to guess. The other three levels are based on your cognitive load during active recall:

Hard: You had to dig deep into your brain, think for a long time, and were unsure about details. The card will return soon.
Good: You had the core of the answer ready quickly. This is the normal learning flow.
Easy: Pure basic knowledge. If someone woke you up at 3 AM, you would have shot the definition like a pistol.

Your honest feedback directly feeds our FSRS algorithm. It calculates to the minute exactly when your brain would forget this specific piece of info – and triggers the next repetition exactly then. This minimizes your study time before exams.

What is the difference between the SM-2 and FSRS algorithms?

The SM-2 algorithm is the foundation of older learning apps (like Anki) and was the gold standard of Spaced Repetition for decades. FSRS (Free Spaced Repetition Scheduler) is the modern, AI-supported upgrade. While SM-2 uses rigid calculations, FSRS adapts to your individual forgetting curve like a tailored suit. The result for your exam period? You achieve the same retention performance with up to 20% fewer repetitions. You learn smarter, not harder. Learn deeper details about FSRS math here.

Why should I use flashcards at all?

Forget passive reading and colorful highlighting of lecture scripts – science clearly shows: This only creates the "illusion of competence". Flashcards force your brain into Active Recall. You have to generate the answer yourself, which creates extremely strong neural connections. Furthermore, the format of the flashcard forces you to break down the university material: 'How would the professor ask this question in the exam?'. Those who use flashcards say goodbye to inefficient cramming and store knowledge directly in their long-term memory.

What is the advantage of Spaced Repetition?

Without a system, you forget 70% of the learned material within 24 hours (Ebbinghaus Forgetting Curve). Spaced Repetition hacks this biological problem. Instead of chewing through the same stack every day, the app uses smart algorithms that calculate the perfect time for the next repetition – exactly when you are about to forget the fact. The intervals get longer (days, weeks, months). This saves you dozens of hours of useless repetitions during the hot exam phase. Discover the science behind Spaced Repetition.

What is the advantage of Active Recall?

Active Recall is the cognitive heavy lifting for your brain. Instead of passively consuming information (like reading or watching YouTube videos), you force yourself to actively retrieve information from memory without aids. According to neuroscientists, this "Testing Effect" is by far the most effective method for deep understanding and long-term memory. It feels more exhausting while learning, but guarantees that you can confidently retrieve the knowledge under stress during the exam. How Active Recall saves your grades.

AI & Features

AI-generated flashcards – how does it work?

The game changer for your time management: You upload your PDF lecture script, PowerPoint slides, or own notes – or simply enter a subject topic. Our AI analyzes the context, extracts the exam-relevant core facts, and generates a finished deck for you in seconds. Pro-Tip: Using our 'Prompter', you can give the AI specific instructions (e.g., "Create multiple-choice questions" or "Focus only on legal definitions"). Hours of card creation turn into seconds.

How do AI cards help me learn?

The biggest pain point during studies is the preparation of the material. Usually, you invest 80% of your time manually writing flashcards and have no energy left for actual studying. With AI-generated flashcards, you reverse this ratio. You start immediately with Active Recall on Day 1. This means: You master double the workload of lecture material in half the time and go into the exam phase much more relaxed.

How does the Neuron Learning Assistant help me?

Imagine having a brilliant tutor sitting next to you at 2 AM. The Neuron Learning Assistant is your 24/7 help for comprehension problems. If you don't understand a flashcard, let the AI explain it to you using the Feynman Technique (simple and with everyday examples). The assistant can also ask you contextual follow-up questions to check if you have truly internalized the concept instead of just memorizing words.

Can I import my flashcards from Anki, Quizlet, or StudySmarter?

Yes, switching to NeuronCard is completely seamless. We know how much work went into your old decks. You can easily import your existing flashcards from apps like Anki, Quizlet, or StudySmarter as a .txt file. Your hard-earned learning progress is preserved, and you immediately benefit from our superior FSRS algorithm and AI features without having to start from scratch.

Can I share my AI-generated flashcards with friends?

Absolutely – teamwork saves semesters! Split the hustle: You generate the cards for Module A, your fellow students take over Module B. You can share individual decks, specific categories, or massive folder structures directly with your study groups via a link. The perfect feature to collaboratively dominate the next exam period.

What is the maximum size for uploaded PDFs (university scripts/slides)?

We have no artificial file size limits. Whether your professor uploads a 50-page handout or a massive 800-page script for medicine or law – just drop it into the engine. For surgically precise AI results, just make sure the PDF is text-based (i.e., highlightable) and not just poor-quality image scans.

Subscription & Pricing

Is NeuronCard free?

Yes, the core features of NeuronCard (such as the FSRS algorithm and basic flashcard learning) are and will permanently remain free. However, if you want to unleash the full potential – meaning unlimited PDF uploads, mass AI card generation, and deep-dive analytics for your learning progress – then our premium subscription is your perfect companion for top grades.

What are the cancellation periods?

Maximum flexibility for your student budget. Your cancellation options depend on the selected plan:

4-Week Subscription: Absolutely flexible. Can be cancelled at any time with one click at the end of the 4 weeks. Perfect for using premium only during the intensive exam phase.
Annual Subscription: The cheapest option calculated per month. Can be cancelled with a 1-month notice before the end of the term. After the first renewal, it can even be cancelled monthly by law. No hidden traps.

Platform & Security

Is there an app for iOS and Android?

Of course! The native NeuronCard app is dropping soon directly in the Apple App Store (iOS) and Google Play Store (Android). Your entire learning progress, your AI decks, and the complex mathematical calculations of the FSRS algorithm are synchronized in real-time via the cloud. Whether you are sitting at a desktop PC in the library or swiping on your smartphone on the train – you are always up to date.

What happens to my uploaded scripts? Do you train AIs with them?

Your lecture materials and intellectual property remain 100% yours. We guarantee you: Your uploaded PDFs, notes, and created flashcards are strictly not used to train general language models (LLMs) or external AIs. Data security according to European standards is our top priority. The only thing getting trained on this platform is you.
